Indications of Jobst Class 1 Compression Stockings

All Jobst leg wear has been designed to deal with a number of venous and lymphatic conditions. Products of Compression Class 1 strength (18 - 21 mmHg) have the following indications:

• Primary or secondary lymphoedema in ISL stages 0-II with no or minimal shape distortion
• Infants and children between 18 months and 6 years of age with lymphoedema
• Lymphoedema when higher compression is not tolerated
• Tired, heavy legs
• Slight tendency of the ankles, feet or legs to swell
• Slight varicosis without oedema
• Onset of pregnancy related varicosis
• Arthritic patients
• Controlled cardiac oedema

Contraindications of Jobst Compression Stockings

Though Jobst Compression Garments can deal with a wide range of conditions, there are a number of Contraindications that must be remembered to ensure proper use.

Jobst Compression Stockings Should not be worn in cases of:

• Ischaemia
• Uncontrolled congestive heart failure
• Untreated septic phlebitis
• Plegmasia coerulea dolens

While the above conditions are considered absolute contraindications, problems can arise if you use compression stockings with the following conditions:

• Immobility
• Skin infections
• Weeping dermatoses
• Incompatibility to fabric
• Impaired sensitivity of the limb
• Ill-fitting compression garments may cause skin necrosis, pressure-related peripheral nerve damage and deep vein thrombosis

The following conditions require a physician's advice before using a compression garment:

• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Complex regional pain syndrome
• CRPSD (M. Sudeck)
• Malignant Lymphoedema
• Gangrene

Sizing of Jobst Opaque Thigh Compression Stockings

Jobst Opaque Thigh Compression Stockings are available in six different sizes, with each size also coming in two lengths: Regular and Petite.

The shorter size of stockings have a length of 60 - 69cm while the longer length is between 70cm - 80cm.

Simplified Sizing

While the above sizing chart is ideal if you are looking for a pair of stockings that fit you exactly, the sizing can be difficult to take and match to the sizing chart. With our simplified sizing, you only need to take three measurements:

• The circumference of the thigh (i.e. where the stockings would end)
• The circumference of the kneecap
• The circumference of the ankle

Once you have these measurements, please match your results to the table below. If you fall between a couple of different sizes, we would recommend choosing the size for which you match the most measurements.
