Who Are the Covidien TED Anti-Embolism Stockings For?
The Covidien TED Anti-Embolism Stockings are designed for those who have had surgery and are in the first six weeks after the operation. Immobility and injured legs mean that post-op users are at high risk of developing a range of conditions because of blood clots. Conditions that these stockings can prevent include:
- Thromboembolic disease
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Pulmonary embolism
- Blood clots
How Do the Covidien TED Anti-Embolism Stockings Work?
The Covidien TED Stockings prevent blood from clotting in the leg after surgery or during a period of immobility. They do this through something called compression. Compression is where something is placed over a particular area to help increase blood flow by increasing the level of pressure on the body.
The Covidien TED Anti-Embolism Stockings feature graduated pressure that is increased the higher up the stockings that you go. This helps to improve the speed of blood flow as it ascends up the leg, which reduces the chances of blood clots starting to develop.
Which Size of Covidien TED Anti-Embolism Stockings Should I Choose?
Covidien TED Stockings are available in nine different sizing variations. The maximum thigh circumference for each variation is 63cm (25").

Are the TED Anti-Embolism Stockings Available in Different Lengths and Colours?
Should you wish the TED Anti-Embolism Stockings are available in a range of different sizes and colours on the Health and Care website. Unfortunately there is only one colour available of the Thigh Length Stockings.
Where Will the Covidien Anti-Embolism Stockings Provide Compression?
As you can see from the image above, the White Thigh Length Stockings are designed to provide compression from the bottom of your leg to midway through your thigh. They target this area specifically because this is the area that is highest risk from blood clots because blood can pool in the bottom of the feet. The area most at risk is the back of the calf, which is why these stockings offer a high level of compression in this area.
Can I Use the Covidien TED Stockings Post Surgery?
The Covidien TED Thigh Length Stockings are designed ideally for use post surgery. In the six weeks following surgery to your groin, hip, legs, knees, ankles or feet, you are at highest risk due to the damaged tissue and immobility. We do however recommend that you do seek professional opinion before purchase.
How Tight Are the TED Thigh Length Stockings to Wear?
The TED Anti-Embolism Stockings are designed to be tight, as it's this level of tightness that is designed to accelerate the speed of the blood as it moves through the bottom half of your body. Don't worry though as your legs will soon get accustomed to the tightness, and in time you won't even realise that the stockings are there at all.
How Comfortable Are the TED Thigh Length Stockings?
They are designed to be flexible and stretch over your legs while moving with the natural movement of walking. As a result they are extremely comfortable, and after the initial tightness users have reported that the Thigh Length Stockings don't feel like they are there at all. The stockings also feature a closedtoe design, which is ideal for increasing the level of comfort on your feet.
How Discreet Are the TED Anti-Embolism Stockings?
One concern in wearing TED Anti-Embolism Stockings is their discreetness, as users don't want thick bulgy stockings being visible through tight clothes. The material is designed to be thin and flexible, meaning that you can barely notice that they are compression stockings at all. This level of discreetness is ideal for anyone who is socially conscious.
How Do I Care for My Anti-Embolism Compression Stockings?
Caring for your Anti-Embolism Stockings can greatly improve the length of their life, especially as dirt and debris can begin to damage the stockings if they are not washed. Please note that oils, lanolin and similar substances may deteriorate the material. Should you want to wash your stockings, you should adhere to the following instructions:
- They may be washed with light goods in temperatures that don't exceed 71°C.
- Avoid excessive bleach.
- They may be tumble dried with temperatures reaching 121°C over a 15 to 20 minute period.
